A Century Later, Canada’s Role in the Bloody Battle of the Somme Remembered

While this report speaks to Canadian involvement in the Battle please note that the Canadian Corps was still fighting in Flanders on 1 July 1916 and only the Newfoundland Regiment was engaged on 1 July. The Canadian Corps joined the Battle in mid-September 1916 for the Battle of Flers-Courcellette.
